I tend to be more laid back and relaxed. I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes, improvisation and creating their own sounds without fear of harsh criticism. I set up goals for each student based on their interests and what I feel is going to help them advance. This will include genres they may not like but I want to give them experience with a variety of different sounds and rhythms. Read More

I believe that the best way to learn how to play is to play what you like to listen to. Practicing the repertoire is as important as the mechanical and technical practices of the instrument. Based on this, I often try to identify the techniques used in the songs that the student likes and whenever possible, we work on the technical part applied to a given song. This way, studying becomes more enjoyable and dynamic. Read More

I have taught siblings in a class type setting. I have taught preschoolers at preschool. I have taught Little Mozarts to little ones. I use music in the homes already, sometimes I provide things from the 50s that my aunt and uncle scribbled in: leila Fletcher, Edna Mae Burnam, classical composers-mozart, debussy, chopan, clementi, beethoven, bach. I first began teaching in the summer of 2011 as a volunteer for a music camp and instantly fell in love with teaching. My first lesson teacher engrained in me the importance of sharing knowledge with colleagues and the younger generations. In addition to various private students over the years, I have taught at the Summer Brass Bash, Eastman Community School of Music, Discovering Brass, and North End Music and Performing Arts Center. I love teaching piano and violin lessons to students of all ages from beginner to upper intermediate levels. I studied piano performance with Robert Smith and violin performance with Percy Kalt at BYU; I have also studied with Jeffrey Shumway, former Head of Keyboard Studies, BYU and Carroll Meyer, Boise State University. These wonderful teachers guided and inspired me to attain and pass on classical technique and style to the next generation of musicians. Read More

I always try to develop, in the student, the passion for music. Whether it is the student who seeks to play professionally or the child who wishes to be musicalized. I believe that musical theory must always be studied in a practical way, or else it is empty and useless. After all, it is through experience and practice that we learn in a true, learning this which can last for many years. Read More
Instruments: Voice
It's important to me that students enjoy what they are singing--if they don't, they won't be motivated, are less likely to practice, and they won't progress as quickly. Still, I believe students should sing a variety of literature (and may even find something they didn't know they enjoyed), and regularly start beginning students with some simple Italian art songs. Students in my studio are exposed to art songs, folk songs, opera arias, and showtunes. Read More
