I am somewhat flexible on books and methods, but unless my students have already invested time and money in a particular published method, I start them on the Bastien series, which is not too expensive and is well designed and effective. As they progress to intermediate, they will be expected to buy some classical music, collections, and technique books. For guitar- I studied under Mike Christensen at Utah States University. I use his guitar books that he has written. For piano- I use Alfred''s piano books. They are very well written and are geared for success! For flute- I start with Suzuki and then the sky is the limit! I like playing music theory games with kids. Hi! My name is Lauryn L. and I am 19. Right now I go to BYU, and I am studying Viola Performance. I started viola in 6th grade and have been playing ever since. From 10th grade to 12th grade I went to the Gifted Music School Conservatory in SLC. I graduated from there last year. I have been able to work with many professional musicians through this music school. My favorite memories from my music experience so far was playing in Abravanel Hall with the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra, and playing 2 outdoor concerts at Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens with them as well. My first teacher was Jaime Jesperson, who opened my eyes to the world of advanced drumming styles beyond the world of rock music. My studies with him prepared me to study with Jay Lawrence, Utah's premier jazz drummer, and to qualify for a music scholarship at Brigham Young University, where I performed in several jazz groups and orchestral groups.
