I graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude) from Berklee college of Music in Interdisciplinary Music Studies and Music Composition for films and games. I play and teach India drums. I have also performed classical solo in New Jersey. I have been learning Indian classical vocal for last 20 years and In Berklee I have got training on all different genres of western music. The first teaching concept I focus on is the capacity to produce great sounds with the least amount of effort. Therefore I spend some time in getting the student to play very relaxed to create a relationship with body and mind, I believe music is an extension of the body and so if the mind and body are relaxed then music will come out flawless. After we performed, we would have a talk back with the kids where they would ask different questions about acting and my experience with singing, and it filled my heart to see so many kids be entranced by theater and inspired to be in the arts themselves. I had another class i high school that focused on bringing arts to different communities around Chicago, and once every couple weeks we would go to a different middle school and play improv games, create scenes, and sing with the children of the schools so that they can learn how to embrace who they are through performance. All of my students work on tried and true Bel Canto and Swedish techniques. I will give each student special vocal exercises to work on at home. I generally assign songs from The 24 Italian Songs and Arias songbook and I use Musical Theater Anthologies. Some of my more advanced High School students work on Opera arias. Read More

For my teaching goals I like to help my students learn the instrument from the basic fundamentals. I believe music is like building a house and it is important to start with fundamentals in order to construct a strong foundation for musical knowledge. A vital part of developing voice repertoire is exploring various interests and styles. I encourage all vocalists to choose songs that they will enjoy singing, but I will guide my students in exploring any realm otherwise not explored. I encourage healthy singing and practicing techniques that will ensure productive rehearsal without fear of vocal damage. A professor of mine used to always say, "there is no singing without acting", and I ensure that when a student sings a song, they will not only know how to sing properly, but they will also have a deep understanding of what they are singing about and how to convey the message.
