Since then, I have taught in church programs (choral students working on solo voice) as well as in the university setting (student teaching and TA voice class support). I started teaching voice while at Millikin University. My first job teaching upon graduating was at the Schaumburg Academy of Music, where I taught children through adults. Other schools I taught at include Dancenter North in Libertyville, and Montessori of Hoffman Estates. I always figure out where a student is at, and prefer to grow off the student's strengths as opposed to harping on their weaknesses. I have been in lessons before where teachers couldn't get past the smallest details, and these ruined the experience for me, as well as greatly affected what I was able to accomplish in my lessons. I provide a structured yet stress-free environment when teaching. I custom make the lesson plans to meet the need of each student, and I play or sing each assignment, then have the student go through everything once before doing it at home. I am also available by phone if a student needs to contact me regarding a problem with their lesson at home. For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books.  As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire.  My voice students learn from a variety of sources.  I usually start with a song they know well and work from there.  Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques.   Read More
