I graduated in 2002 from Millikin University with a degree in Vocal Performance, where I also had the chance to study in Italy and perform in operas . Upon graduating, I started teaching! I am always learning more: studying broadway vocals, rock singing, and so much more. I am also one of a few certified CoreSinging instructors in the USA, trained by respected author and pedagogue Dr. Meribeth Dayme.
I have also performed with Opera on Tap Chicago and the Lira Ensemble. Previous students include a Broadway performer and American Idol Top 12 Finalist!
I started teaching voice while at Millikin University. My first job teaching upon graduating was at the Schaumburg Academy of Music, where I taught children through adults. Other schools I taught at include Dancenter North in Libertyville, and Montessori of Hoffman Estates. While residing in the Bay Area, I grew my online studio as well as taught at Sterling West and at the non profit Boldly Me! I LOVE teaching every variety of music imaginable, from opera to hard rock. My focus is to increase confidence in every singer I work with: I truly believe everyone can and SHOULD sing!
I use the bel canto method when I teach singing: simply put , beautiful vowel-based singing! This goes for all ages. I use standard warm ups such as those based on Estelle Liebling, as well as more non traditional methods such as those in CoreSinging and the Funky n Fun series. Overall I believe voice to be very customizable as a discipline and make sure each student gets what they need at every lesson- whether it's additional help with confidence in their ear if they are newer or more song polishing if they're more advanced or intermediate.
The best thing about teaching are the "a ha" moments! I love seeing a smile - that tells me a student LOVES what they were just able to do. And then we high-five, of course! I love when students tell me they surprised themselves , saying something along the lines of , "I didn't know I could make that sound!". I start everyone with the same vocal overview when we first meet , to show you what your amazing voice is capable of doing. Don't worry, it all gets repeated! If a student is less than confident I am there for them 100%, and super patient. I understand how nervous it can make someone feel to sing in front of a stranger!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
