Instruments: Piano Voice Organ Music Keyboard
To help students become familiar with rhythms, I occasionally use clapping exercises and even collaborate with them to create a song together. When I teach music, I make sure to emphasize sustainability. It's important to me that my students understand how to take care of their instruments, use resources efficiently, and appreciate the natural world that inspires music. By teaching sustainability along with music, I hope to help my students become responsible and caring individuals who can make a positive impact on the world Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Bass Guitar Euphonium Tuba
As a guitar teacher, I like to start with getting the student accustomed with each string, including how to tune a guitar and how to play different notes on each string. Next, I start teaching chords by starting with E minor and then moving as little as possible with the fingers so the student can understand the relation between certain chords. For voice, I start with posture and breath support and work on vocal techniques before we even start with singing songs. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Flute Piccolo
For my voice students I prefer to work within genres that the student likes; I did not like being forced to sing certain songs when I was studying voice, so I would not want to do that to anyone else! My flute students I like to work with the Rubank method books - from beginner to advanced; they offer the most comprehensive approach to playing the flute. For piano students, I prefer to use the Piano Adventure Series by Faber. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Ukulele Mandolin Classical Guitar Acoustic Guitar
Its amazing to watch my students fall in love with their instrument and gain confidence and joy from learning to play. Everyone is different and will need to go at their own pace. My job is more of a "coach" - setting up structures and practices to help you succeed but not doing the work for you! I will help fuel your desire to grow as a musician and encourage you to progress at your own pace while celebrating each and every success along the way while tailoring my instruction based on my students needs and goals. Instruments: Voice
I try to tailor lesson plans to each individual as I believe different people want to get different things out of singing. For younger students, I will focus on the fundamentals of music such as pitch recognition, rhythmic accuracy, scale execution. These building blocks can help children confidently express themselves in music. For older students, I will build on the aforementioned principles and explore how to use technique and emotion to express oneself in singing. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Keyboard
I will be the first to admit I don't have a set method for teaching. However that is because I choose different methods based on the student. Every child, adult, teenager, etc learns at a different pace, has a different educational preference and I adjust myself to meet the needs of the student. Some will learn better by ear, others will learn through a traditional study of notes. I prefer my students to work hard but at their own pace and to teach them in a way that's beneficial to them and not myself. Read More
