I have been teaching for almost 10 years, in Philadelphia schools such as Olney High School, Nueva Esperanza, AMLA Latin School for The Performing Arts, Taller Puertorriqueo, and Philly Music Lessons. I have been consistently teaching students in my home studio within the last 6 years. As music composition and music production are rapidly changing with the rise of technology, I also teach music composition with technology in mind. I received a Master’s degree in Music from the Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia, PA in 2015 for Vocal Performance. Before that, I graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.I. Tchaikovsky in Kiev in 2013, where I received a Bachelor in Music, took parts in a lot of operas ("Le nozze di Figaro", "Eugene Onegin", "Faust") and also earned a certificate of teaching. With piano students I enjoy using John Thompson and Alfred methods for beginners and I choose different songs as students get more experience. For voice students I use simple songs to develop their vocal technique. Through effective warmups and reading, students will develop musicianship skills. For younger students, I tend to focus on the production of breath and basic sounds as they begin to grow into their body. This is to ensure that the baseline technique is there as they find how their instrument, the voice, is growing into their developing selves. For adult students of any technique, I prefer to start with basic vocal exercises to test the agility and flexibility of the voice so that I have an understanding of how their matured voice functions. Hi there! I'm Dejah, a recording and performing artist in Philadelphia. I graduated from Philadelphia's High School for the Creative and Performing Arts' Vocal Department in 2016. I also attended Montgomery County Community College for Sound Recording and Music Technology for a year and a half before I decided to go on a hiatus. I was named a 2021 National YoungArts Foundation Finalist in Popular Voice and received the Merit Winner award for songwriting in the 2020 YoungArts Competition. I was selected into Grammy Camp 2020 and 2021 for Vocal Performance, NYU Contemporary Voice Workshop in 2020, and the NYU Songwriting Intensive in 2020. I won 1st in the 2019 NATS NJ Doris Lenz competition, 1st in the 2020 NATS NY, and 2nd in the 2021 NATS Eastern Competition. I was also recognized as a semi-finalist for the 2020 Hal Leonard vocal competition in the musical theater category and received the best soloist award for Blues/Pop/Rock Voice in the Downbeat Magazine 2021 Competition.
