Each lesson begins with a chat while we gently stretch, breathe and prepare your body to sing. Singers are attached to their instrument and so getting your mind focused and getting comfortable in the singing space allows us to have as productive a lesson as we can. We work on vocalizes and technique next- to properly warm you up and strengthen your instrument. These are all songs that can be played and sung simply and most students have heard them already! For beginners on string instruments , I start with teaching them the major scale in the key of G, and then progressing to beginner songs. After a few songs are mastered, I ask each student to propose a song theyd like to learn based on their individual taste. For percussion, I focus on fundamentals such as proper sticking techniques and rudiments.
