I typically create individualized plans for my vocal students, depending on their level. I focus on technique and ease of singing with proper breathing for support. I do visualization techniques to help achieve an increased range without strain. I incorporate music the student is interested in to maintain their interest and love of music. I like to keep my lessons fun. I realize that technique can be dull and dry at times but is a necessity in learning music. I like to mix technique with songs and styles of music the student is interested in so they get a full understanding of why technique is important and how it applies to songs and musical selections that are of interest to the student. My method of working with the voice is to first get a sense of what the student's goals are. These include both vocal goals and career/performance goals. We will then work together to form a plan to achieve them. This will include exercises tailored directly to the student's vocal needs and desires and guiding the student to repertoire that will both be fun for them to sing and will teach them more about the concepts we are working on. Im a very engaging and passionate teacher who comes from a long line of musicians and educators. In 2008 I received my undergraduate degree in music with a concentration in musical theater. I then took a year to work in the industry at several regional musical theater and opera houses domestically and internationally. Some of my career highlights include the many recitals I have crafted and performed with musical colleagues, singing in a NY opera program called American Singers' Opera Project, my debut at Carnegie Hall in 2012 and all those wordelss moments of connecting with an audience during songs.
