Then, I begin my strategy of how to devise a skills building foundation based on their needs. After a few exercises, I can understand how quickly they can adapt and try new techniques. I like to tailor the lesson specifially with the students skill level, musical goals, and a combination of musical styles that the student enjoys as well as teaching through other literature that I pick out. Fundamentals of music notation sight reading are also incorperated into basic techniques in playing the instrument for beginners. I usually start my beginning piano students who are children, in Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Lesson Book 1A. After a few months, I begin adding solo repertoire that is appropriate for age and ability. For middle school age students and adults, I start with Alfred's Basic Piano, Adult, Level 1. I also like to find out the student's individual interest and find repertoire that they are interested in learning and that are aligned with their current skills. Read More

As the music director of Smooth Progressions A Cappella, I worked with college students of various skill levels to produce an EP and an album. We sang everything from Irish folk ballads to Justin Timberlake.
