I employ a very eclectic, rotating repetoire. For beginning violin students, I use the Suzuki method of ear-training, however I am not married to that curriculum. I prefer to use beginning Suzuki materials in tandem with standard American folk and pop music, in accordance to the student's interests. I began playing violin, taking private lessons, at the age of four years and trained under the Suzuki method. At age five, I began participating in the National Federation of Music Clubs and received Superior ratings for thirteen consecutive years; in the year 2008, I received the Presidents Festival Cup under the National Federation of Music. I also began performing with the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra (CKYO) at age seven and participated in three European tours with CKYO, serving as their concert master for the Spain and Portugal tour in 2008. Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. Although I began my musical career in the Suzuki method, I intentionally balance the ear-training approach of that method with music theory to create well-rounded musicians. My students will learn how to sight read music, improvize their own melodies, perform in an ensemble (chamber and/or orchestral) and master the art of performance with a solid foundation in music theory. When I began my Master's degree in composition at the University of New Mexico, I concurrently worked as a private tutor for violin, music theory, and composition. I ultimately proceeded with my doctoral work in composition, first at UCLA, where I won two composition competitions in two consecutive years, and then completed  at Claremont Graduate University, where I was awarded a DMA degree in composition.
