I have cut my teeth learning my instrument and have sacrificed a lot of happiness and social occasions in order to be the musician I am today. I don't necessarily expect my students to sacrifice as much as I have and do, though I believe there is a lot to be sacrificed if you want to be serious about music and become an accomplished player. Therefor, sessions with me are fun and enjoyable but also very serious. Read More

Additionally, I have produced a handout I give my guitar students, which show chord families from different keys. I teach my students how to cipher out the key of a guitar song. Once the key is correct, the student looks at the chords within that key structure and goes more or less figuring out by ear the chord changes. I believe learning music is an enjoyable experience. Students should have fun playing piano, but it is also important that they learn the necessary techniques while playing piano. I always like to simplify the information delivery and maximize the playing. For this reason and, considering the differences that make us all unique, I would generally rely on specific methods depending on the needs of each student. Of course, in general terms, most beginners would have quite a lot of transcribing (playing songs or relevant parts of songs of important musicians), most intermediate students will learn some scales and chords and their uses and most advanced students will learn chord melody (solo guitar), improvising and comping in different styles and writing and arranging songs. Generally speaking if you are a beginner regardless of age, we will be exploring the basis of composition and connecting with music or finding a groove. You will be instructed on the importance of warming up, and how to create a personalized warm up routine, you will gain knowledge of rudiments and other various drumming exercises, sight reading, and most importantly proper technique. Generally if you are more advanced we go into dynamics, performance training, more advanced sight reading and technique discipline, exploration of various genres and styles, ostinatos, advanced interdependence exercises, and a multitude of other tools that will help further your individual growth, solos and creative expression. My private teaching began in the summer of 2007. I started with two students and have continued to teach every summer since. Once I graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in June of 2014, I have taught year-round. Most of my students are beginners, and it can be rewarding when I see how much they have improved over the months. With my more advanced students, I make sure that they stay interested in their instrument and ask them what they are interested in playing, as well as provide challenging pieces. Read More
