Along with each guitar song mapping, my student receives the correct connection of the audio (song) from YouTube for the respective guitar chord mapping. The student writes in the number of the chord, example, I - IV - VI - V (One Four six Five chord progression) and sometimes the letter of the chord, from the previous example, let's say key of A (A - D - F#m - E) This method I have created, allows my guitar students to learn theory, play by ear, learn great guitar songs, and feel comfortable playing in front of an audience. I knew I wanted to be a music teacher as early as elementary school. I began my teaching experience as a Kindermusik educator; teaching music and movement to children birth -7 years old. I did this for 10 years before moving on to class room music, where I taught basic music theory at the young elementary level. During this time I began teaching private voice lessons in my home. I encourage my students to sing and not worry about making mistakes. Read More

Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest. With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique. If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. Read More

I use the teaching method as previously described, and try to tailor my style for each student. Everyone learns, practices, and progresses uniquely -- so it's part of MY job to figure out the best approach to help each of my students. My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student. My teaching goal is to encourage my students to be lifelong patrons of the arts. I understand that every student may not be interested in a career in music. I encourage students to set goals and work toward them. These goals may include a scholarship audition, playing a piece in front of a family member, or booking their first professional "gig." My main goal is to provide inspiration and inspire a student ( no matter what the starting place) to pick a 'first goal." This "first goal" allow the student to set a goal and create a path for success under the supervision of a trained professional. Read More

For beginning students playing piano I typically start with Alfred's' Basic Piano Library, deciding on level when I learn about a students background in playing. On any brass wind instrument I will start with Measures of Success by FJH Music. It's important to me that students practice and understand the important of fundamentals in their music playing. A solid foundation provides students with the necessary tools to advance their musical career far past casually impressing friends with simple and redundant pieces. Read More

I am a voice, piano, and guitar teacher. I prefer to teach in an easygoing, but precise manner and try to adapt to all my students needs. Ive been in love with music since I was a kid, singing along to everything I could. I studied music in college and graduated in 2012, then started teaching privately in January of 2014. Along with the act of teaching and the enjoyment of music, Im a huge fan of tasty food, learning new things, and exploring the world around me. Read More
