Hello! Playing violin is one of my favorite things to do, and I like to enable others to share my love of the instrument. I graduated from the University of Redlands in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and played in the University's orchestra and various chamber groups while studying there. For beginning students, I start with Gerald E. Anderson and Robert S. Frost's All for Strings. Once the students made progression in basic fundamentals, I use the Suzuki Methods Books and Solo for Young Violinists by Barbara Barber. Along with that, I introduce the students to the chamber music so that the students learn to play with others. I try to relate the student's study of their instrument to their school work and what music they might be studying in school or encountering in their daily lives.  With adults it is important to discover what other music lessons they have had and what their experiences with music have been. I began teaching piano and violin lessons 15 years ago and have been consistently teaching ever since. Encouraging daily practice, and helping the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument is one of the key points. While enjoyment is the number one rule, following their development and progress with certain method books are really important. I introduce scales right away and each student usually has a technique book. I also incorporate games into lessons for young students to keep it fun. As students advance I introduce sheet music and music they like. For adults, there are a couple of chord method books by Alfred and Faber available and I use those unless they request something specific to work on. I have extensive experience as a teacher as well as a performer. I bring these two accomplishments together to provide a well rounded experience for my students.  In High School, I performed with the Kansas City Youth Symphony for 8 years, the Kansas City Cello Choir for eight years, the Missouri All-State for three years, and various other honor orchestras throughout her career. I have been teaching privately for fourteen years now. I studied under Dr. Ernest Salem at Cal State Fullerton and received various master class from members of Talich Quartet, Mary Straub, Wei-Wei Lu, and most notably James Buswell. My former teacher, Andrea Byers, studied with world renown, Ivan Galamian. I received my bachelor's with an emphasis in music education. After completing my undergrad, I was accepted to the Bob Cole Conservatory at California State University of Long Beach on scholarship, and studied violin performance. Read More
