I am an active member of Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC). My students take the Certificate of Merit (CM) test annually in performance, theory, sight-reading and ear training. Taking the CM test is optional but highly recommended. I also make sure my students have plenty of chances at performing on stage at recitals by organizing my own recitals or joining forces with other MTAC teachers. I have taught beginners to advanced beginners, and most of my students have to this point hired me to train for a particular upcoming audition. I try my best to keep lessons fun, especially with the younger students. For example, Sometimes we play music games, sometimes we walk/dance to learn about rhythm, sometimes we sing. I also have small group practices each month to combine students at about the same level, they play togher, they perform for each other, make constructive suggestions and encourage each other. My love of violin began at age 19 and I joined the college orchestra after 6 months of lessons. I passed ASTACAP level 9 in 2019. I returned to Fullerton College and earned my piano pedagogy certificate with 14 additional units in performance, theory and child development. I have played violin in 3 orchestras over the years and hundreds of local church/wedding/studio performances. I traveled to China with Chapman Symphony and performed 4 concerts. I specialize in teaching classical Suzuki method, however, my teaching skills are broad. Starting from beginner level students and teaching them technicalities and specifics of classical violin to teaching students of any age creative writing and spontaneous playing. I also specialize in creative pop song writing and alternative recording. This includes training students who see themselves pursuing playing violin for bands and in more diverse musical cultures. I train everyone with at least a basic skill set and understanding of classical violin and sight reading, then allow them to choose if they want to stick with classical violin or dive into ear training and creative writing.
