I swear by the Suzuki method. Ive tried various methods, and nothing has worked better than this. Suzuki not only incorporates, but makes it a necessity to be able to sight read, learn by ear (listening followed by playing), and understand the theory behind the piece. I believe that being well educated in different styles of playing makes one a greater musician. My students start off with music theory and the basics of violin, beginning with classical repertoire that can be solo pieces or group pieces from Suzuki book 1. Read More

My music backround goes back to my pre-teen days with a toy guitar and singing in front of my second grade class. Formal training began in junior high with the saxophone which continued through high school and my college years at Fairleigh Dickinson University. My teaching experience began in the Chicago public and private schools in the 1970's. Wanting to have the ability to work with a student on a one on one basis, I went into business for myself as a private teacher. From 1976 to 2010 I taught music in a music store that I co-owned in the Chicago area. During that same period I worked with several universities with theMethods of Private Instruction in the area of Music Education. Read More
