Teaching for me means to be constantly creative and flexible about gauging expectations and output, adjusting methods according to the students' ability to respond, and discovering new paths that are often dictated by the students themselves. I try to remain open-minded about the ways that musical goals can be achieved, rather than getting locked up in a routine that might have been successful before. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 4 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 2 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument.
