My first experience playing music was in school band. I joined the 5th grade band playing percussion and have never stopped since there. My mother played guitar in church and when I started playing drums I was allowed to fill in when the regular drummer wasn't there. One day they asked me if I wanted to play bass. I try to incorporate different exercises for each piece of music to keep things interesting for my students. I believe active physical engagement of the body is important to achieve freedom for the voice. This is particularly helpful for younger children to keep their minds from wandering during the lesson. I often ask for feedback from the students, to check in on how they are feeling physically and vocally. For other lessons, I try to tailor them to each student and find materials that fit with their unique music goals. I have drawn from a variety of music resources, as well as my own knowledge, to help students learn through their own unique way of thinking.
