My teaching style really focuses around developing a love for your instrument. If the student loves their instrument and the music that is written for their instrument, they will feel encouraged to practice. I try to pick up on the student's personality and learning styles and make each person's lesson a combination of my teaching styles and what works best for the student. Once we find the routine and groove that works for the both the student and myself, then the learning should come along easily and fun. Read More

I believe each student is different. Therefor, lessons should differ depending on each students particular needs, taste in music, and age. I would never treat an adult student like I would a young student and vice versa. I always try to set weekly goals with each of my students in order for them to have something to work towards on a consistent basis. If my students don't reach their weekly goal I simply have a little bit of a review with them in the beginning of the lesson and then proceed with that weeks work. Read More

My main goal in teaching music is to build a good foundation. Not all music students will go on to major in music, and that's OK. Music offers invaluable experiences for everybody involved, and I have seen music change lives. There is a lot of evidence that music helps in school performance and test taking, and there is evidence that music helps to build organizational and critical thinking skills. I like to build a positive relationship with my students, and I encourage progress in order to make students eager to learn more. Read More

I use multiples methods. One of them is the Susuki method. I consider that is a good method for beginners with a lot of techniques exercises and also includes pieces. For me it is essential that a student learn first all the techniques exercises and then start to create music. After that I started to teach how to respect the essential aspects in a piece: the fingering, the bowing, the dynamics, the tempo and others. Read More

1- I am interested in the program because I have dedicated all my life to the social action through music, because I very much value the transformative power of music for the development and strengthening of the community. I have always organized activities such as festivals, workshops and performances to bring the message of music to any sector of the society. I have been trained in EL Sistema in Venezuela, which as given me the opportunity to be in direct contact with thousands of children and youth coming from underserved communities, who though music have seen their inclusion in the society with pride, bravery, hope and strife. I began playing violin in fifth grade at age 10 and loved it immediately! I continued to play through college, then began my career as a college English professor while raising my family. While teaching at City University of New York (CCNY) I played with the BMCC Downtown Symphony. After moving to Montclair, NJ I played regularly at St. Mark's Church for eight years before moving to Largo, Florida, where I continue to do orchestras and solo performances. Read More

In the 1980s, I played electric guitar (classic rock) in a band called Purple Mountains, playing cover songs of the Rolling Stones (including their open tunings for the guitar). I also l played Bluegrass mandolin, fiddle and guitar on stage, since the 1980s, and continue to now, at Boba's Internet Café and PJ Dolan's Irish Pub/Grille, both in Tampa. Earlier on, I graduated with a BA from the City University of New York, where I took some music courses. Read More
