I believe in creating a custom lesson plan for my students. This is important for any age! Students (young and old) need to have something to work towards. I enjoy allowing student to pick what types of music they want to learn how to play and incorporating that music into their lesson plans. All my school-age students like to play the MUSIC MOUNTAIN game, where they climb up with weekly points for practicing and learning songs by memory. We keep track with a special practice record book. When teaching music (or anything), I always attempt to meet the students where they are: For example, when teaching a young beginner, I m a young beginner, I would probably explain the scale by singing the, "Doe, a Deer," song (from The sound of Music) - everyone knows that.
