First of all, thank you for taking the time to look at my profile! I know you have many choices when it comes to string instructors in the area, so I appreciate your time to find out a little about me. After earning an AA in Music from HCC in 2011, I transferred to the University of South Florida, where I studied music education and orchestral conducting. I graduated from USF with my BA in Music Studies in 2013. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. I am able to mention several examples of community development because I have been a member for more than thirty years of El Sistema in Venezuela. It has shown to the world to be one of the most important educational projects that utilizes music for social, familiar and community development. It is also important to mention notable projects in Colombia to which I have participated as a guest teacher and speaker, these are: Fundación Batuta, Tocar y Luchar, Red the Orquestas de Medellín, in Brazil, in USA- El Sistema USA in Boston, Puerto Rico 100*35 Program, Argentina. My teaching style really focuses around developing a love for your instrument. If the student loves their instrument and the music that is written for their instrument, they will feel encouraged to practice. I try to pick up on the student's personality and learning styles and make each person's lesson a combination of my teaching styles and what works best for the student. Once we find the routine and groove that works for the both the student and myself, then the learning should come along easily and fun. Read More

For beginning cello students of all ages, I normally use one of my teacher's method books: Cellocity by Helga Winold of Indiana University. As my cello students progress, I slowly introduce smaller pieces that can normally be found in Suzuki method books. After my cello students have advanced significantly, I begin to introduce more complex pieces that are found in the standard cello repertoire. Eventually, my students reach a level where they gain the ability to gauge their experience level and select their own pieces with my approval. Read More

I have had the opportunity to study at some of the worlds best schools of music including: Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, University of South Florida's School of Music, and was accepted into the Longy School of Music in Boston. At these institutions I have had the chance to study with some of the worlds leading solo and orchestral cellists including: Helga Winold, Emilio Colon, Janos Starker, Scott Kluksdahl and Lowell Adams. I find that the key to enjoyable lessons is to discover just the right sort of pieces a student likes to play. No one likes having to practice something they think is boring. It is with this in mind that I also incorporate games and flash cards and activities involving action for the little ones who can't sit long on a piano bench. I make sure we use ALL the keys of a piano from one end to the other, and the black ones too. Read More
