After moving back to New England to attend Boston University, I began working with the Boston Youth Symphony as a teaching assistant. I taught at the Boston Conservatory extension program when it existed. I went to japan and saw Suzuki as part of my training for teaching the Suzuki method. I belong to ASTA and SAA , SMS and AFM I've had students playing in the suzuki festivals. Students I've taught are now having excellent careers as professional musicians. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I would approach teaching by making sure the student is comfortable with whatever i am showing them, and trying to adapt to whatever style makes them comfortable if necessary. Setting goals for the end of each lesson is important based on their skill level and how quickly they pick up the information. My primary goal is to help young students develop a love and deep appreciation for music, which is accomplished through patience, instruction, encouragement and developing incremental levels for each students progress. I also consider myself to be excellent in teamwork projects, as I am always willing to learn from others and am very cooperative in any form of group dynamic. I have been tutoring for the past four years, and have experience working with students both virtually and in-person. I am not Suzuki-certified, however my teaching style does include a mix of Suzuki and independent materials. I like to teach music theory skills concurrently with technical lessons so that students can reinforce their practical training.
