After receiving my Associate in Science in Music I went straight into a studio and started teaching a range of students from 4 - 24 years old, and from the never-picked-up-an-instrument-before to I-can't-wait-for-the-competition levels. I teach the basics first. I show my student how to hold the bow and the violin in detail. I explain that it will be awkward to hold the bow in correct position because it is unusual for person to hold the right hand that way. After several days of practice, this bow hold will become more natural to the student. Holding the violin in the proper position is also important in order to be able to play music. Read More

For adults, I would still use Essential Elements because it does help with reading music, basic violin technique, bow hold, etc. Suzuki is a must because Suzuki is the best! I learned all of the books, and Suzuki's learning methods helps so much! As time progresses, solo repertoire will be introduced and the student will begin learning from Wohlfahrt etude book.
