I have experience teaching all ages, from 5th grade to 55+, and I find it the most rewarding when my students work hard, improve, and achieve their goals. I urge my students to practice regularly on a consistent schedule; improvement is dependent on this, but I also encourage them to explore. My cello instruction is separated by levels and books. Level 0-1 is in Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Level 1-2 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 1, as well as sheet music and books outside of that method book. Level 2-3 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 2 and sheet music, and 3+ will be Rick Mooney's Thumb Position books. I am a member of the Symphonicity Orchestra in Virginia Beach, VA and the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra in Atlanta, GA. I have studied under the direction of The Hampton Roads Chamber Players and The Bay Youth Orchestra in Norfolk, VA. Currently performs several times a year at The Biltmore House in Asheville, NC and several other events in the Atlanta Metro area. At the age of 17, I flew to Hollywood, CA to attend Musicians Institute where I studied Bass Guitar Performance. Learning from and playing with some of the best musicians in the business was amazing. I left school to hit the road with my first professional band. I spent the next 20+ years writing, recording and touring all over the country. I was lucky enough to be in a few bands that landed indie recording contracts, which allowed me to tour nationally doing original music, with songs I had written being played on radio and on TV shows across the country. Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation. Celebrating daily practice to turn goals into accomplishments, I love seeing my students learn, harness their determination to do more, learn more, and I love seeing my students happy with their self-worth.
