Immediately I'd like to know why the student is pursuing the given instrument, then sort of gauge a level of passion, drive, talent, etc. and then work from there. With guitar and piano there are several routes one could choose for performance, and each one has different teaching fundamentals. Someone who gravitates more toward Jazz will need a very strong base in musical theory, where as someone who wants to play classical might need stronger technical work. Read More

I became a self taught student in brass and piano and later was accepted as a Music major to West Chester University. During HS I became known as a trumpet soloist in Regional and State Bands and in the Salvation Army brass program a cornet soloist. Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. I believe that my style is really flexible. I think that everybody has a different way to learn so my style will vary based on the student. I also believe that the role of the teacher should the one of facilitating the student process but ultimately is the student who should dictate the style and the pace of the lesson. I believe also that listening is a really important part of music learning so I have my student listening to a lot of different music and also I play with them all the time so that they can hear and feel what is it to play together.
