The methods used in my trumpet studio focus solely on the fundamentals of playing trumpet. For all ages, there is a focus on building breath support, dexterity, and range. For the intermediate and advanced players, there is a focus on transpositions, sight-reading, dexterity, and learning standard trumpet repertoire. All of my lessons are tailored around the student and adhere to the New York State Standards for Music. My teaching experience starts even while I was in high school. I would volunteer to help the middle school band students to coach them and get them ready for competitions. I also volunteered with the Seattle Music Partners where we went into schools that lost their music program and we taught students after school as their only means of connection to this art in schools. While in college I was a co-coordinator and participant in a Music Mentor Program where we took college students and matched them with students from the local middle school in Oberlin. Read More

Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for student, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. If a student is not having fun in their lessons, then I am not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. From 2011 to 2014, I was a Juilliard Pre-College mentor. It was my job to offer support and advice to students in orchestra and brass quintet rehearsals. At Yale, I became a Teaching Artist in 2015 and gave private lessons to Yale Undergraduate students. As a Yale Teaching Artist, I also worked for the Music in Schools Initiative, teaching classes, sectionals, and private lessons to students in public schools in the greater New Haven area. Read More

For beginning students who are children, there are multiple method books I have worked with like Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Accent on Achievement. These books are great for children to get started with the basics and work on their technical study.
