I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. Currently I am a band director in the Pueblo, Colorado area but have lived all over the United States and played trumpet extensively for over 2 decades. I was trained as a trumpet player at DePaul University, UAB, and most recently at the University of Alabama, and also have experience composing and arranging music. I first started teaching and helping run brass sectionals at some local schools in 2004, but did not start teaching regualarly until I completed my degree in 2011. I find that young musicians make the most progress when playing for and with other people. I aim to make lessons fun and engaging and put a strong emphasis on playing duets. I also encourage students to enter competitions and play recitals. I have found competitions and recitals motivate students both before and after the event. Read More
