My teaching come from the Suzuki philosopy. I want to make good citizens. If a child hears fine music and learns to play it they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. I develop the students mid-brain in a musical enviroment. I teach the student how to use their ears more and their eyes less. If the students ear is strong and well honed, their music journey will be so much enjoyable. Read More

I am a passionate, self-motivated, energetic music instructor who loves work with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Industry and minored in Music Education. Within those studies, my primary instrument of focus was the trombone, however, along the way, I picked up and worked on different types of instruments, such as the flute, all of the low brass, piano, and my vocal ability. For teaching trumpet fundamentals, there are a handful of helpful books that I use. One of the main books I would suggest students to use is the Arban book. This book contains exercises for just about everything on the trumpet, ranging from excerpts that are challenging for beginners, and excerpts that are challenging for more experienced players too. Another book I would use is Clarke Technical Studies. This book contains a lot of exercises to help build dexterity in the fingers with playing the trumpet. Read More

Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. These are some of my approaches and I also like to reach on how to play by ear. Read More

For beginner students, I take an individual approach because I've learned that there's no one way to teach multiple students. Each child is different so with careful evaluation of their specific needs and abilities, I decide on which approach would best fit that student. I love to start out by working on posture and embouchure. Those 2 are very important because younger children tend to be a little distracted in those areas. Read More
