At 22, I got into my first road band and spent the next 8 years playing concerts sharing the stage with many of the great name bands on tour as well. Bands such as Blood, Sweat Tears, Sugarloaf and Iron Butterfly are just a few to mention. When I came off the road my brother and I opened a music store and I began teaching the guitar. I keep the studentin mind and create a way to make the lessons fun and interesting. Read More

I started teaching guitar in High School in 2009, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 8 years. I took private lessons for 7 years from four different guitar instructors, so I know what works and what doesn't. My number one focus as a teacher is keeping my students engaged, and doing my best to ignite their passion for the instrument of guitar. I start with teaching proper technique, form, and posture, as well as the basic chord shapes and strumming patterns, and from there I teach songs that both put these new techniques into practice and adhere to the student's musical interests. My goal for every student is to experience learning their instruments in an environment that is both encouraging and rewarding. I exhibit patience with the student knowing what it takes to develop new skills and I work hard in helping each student feel at ease in expressing themselves. I have used many different materials over the years, depending on the individual student's needs and desires to play their music. I do stress learning to read music notation so that you can approach with confidence any piece of music that you would like to play. Read More

These fundamentals are presented in the context of giving the student the tools necessary to begin a journey of self-education. Students are also presented with challenges to begin their early ear development. They are encouraged to attempt to learn music by ear alone and given exercises in applying the lessons scales through consistent playing and experimentation over provided music. And finally for the Soul we will focus on the heart of music and connecting to the heart of ourselves as artist. Read More

My teaching style is unique because it revolves around having fun with music. I believe that more traditional forms of teaching can be too dull or too urgent, leading to disinterest. Once you become disinterested, you're far more likely to quit - and I don't want you to quit! Learning to play an instrument is one of the most fulfilling accomplishments that a person can achieve, no matter the age or skill level. Read More

I've been teaching in one form or another for over 20 years. I ahem also had some really fun mentor relationships as well. One in particular in Mt. Juliet TN. A young man I met at age 10 and is now 21 years old. He had released three records since we first met. I'm very proud of Zach. I've played guitar on over 30 recordings and played over 1,000 shows/concerts. I've charted on the Billboard Chart and my current pop/rock single is #1 in Europe and U.K. on the Euro Indie Top 200! It's all about having a clear goal in mind and working towards it: we'll have conversations about objectives and musical preferences (classical? jazz? rock and pop?) and then develop goals based on those preferences (playing live? what kind of pieces/songs?). Once I have an idea of where the student wants to be, I share my lesson plans with them and tell them what particular exercises or songs/pieces will fit those goals. Read More
