For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. From there we'll cover the basics, such as chord shapes, strumming patterns, and scales. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. For beginners I start teaching basic chords and chord patterns to generate interest for the student. Then I use the Hal Leonard Guitar method to teach the fundamentals of reading music, music theory, etc. Then as the student grasps these simple tools I teach songs to reinforce how chord patterns work and finally move to the type of music the student is interested in. For intermediate and advanced students I find out the level of competance the student currently has and tailor a program based on the needs of each student. Read More
