My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. If I was to emphasize anything about learning the art, it would be the understanding of interpretation and how to make any music into something that is uniquely yours. Read More

Music, at its most basic, should be fun, and I try to impart that to my students. Lessons with me involve jokes, fun music, and taking our music making to the extreme. In addition, I strive to teach music as a language; learning it both aurally and visually, developing an ear for music and self-evaluation while learning to read the notes on the page. I also see it as my duty to model what the student musician should strive to sound like, giving them an ideal sound in their head through frequent modeling. Read More

I know of the importance and rewards of a good music education. Playing a musical instrument can give a student much self confidence, relaxation and enjoyment. It is rewarding for me to work towards that goal for every student that I have the privilege of teaching. I share my positive musical experiences with my students so that they will continue to explore and appreciate performing and also listening to music. Read More

With most beggining students I use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements 2000. For intermediate students I find the Rubank methods move at a faster pace and put a larger emphases on scales. For beginning students, when students are ready I will introduce an easy solo book. In most cases I use Belwin Master Solos or an Essential Elements supplement depending on the interests of the student. For students interested in learning jazz or other forms of improvisation, I would use Hal Leonard's "How to Play from a Real Book" in combination with the Hal Leonard or Aebersold play-along series. I am a highly motivated, hard-working, and outgoing individual. I love people and believe thatteachingmusic lessons is one the best ways to connect with students of all ages and develop a relationship with them. I started learning piano in Kindergarten, began Saxophone in my 5th grade Band, and started tutoring other band students in 6th Grade. In 7th Grade I earned scholarship to attend Illinois Summer Youth Music Camp at the University of Illinois. Read More

My method varies for every student but I have a very specific plan for each level of experience. Beginners would focus on essential elements books and beginner packets that cover basics and also have rewarding solo pieces. More advanced students would focus on scales and long tones with etudes for fundamentals and repertoire for solo playing and performances. Of course, anyone wanting to focus on jazz or certain styles of playing and older players can decide what they want to do and I will guide them as we go. Read More
