I first started teaching and helping run brass sectionals at some local schools in 2004, but did not start teaching regualarly until I completed my degree in 2011. I find that young musicians make the most progress when playing for and with other people. I aim to make lessons fun and engaging and put a strong emphasis on playing duets. I also encourage students to enter competitions and play recitals. I have found competitions and recitals motivate students both before and after the event. Read More

Throughout my musical career I have used many method books to improve my playing anywhere from beginning band books on up to the Arbans trumped method and have gained knowledge from each and everyone of them. Each of the many books I have used have been valuable in making me the player that I was. The information that I have gained through studying this material has helped me become the teacher that I am today, and my goal when teaching any student is to pass on what has been given to me throughout my lifetime. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student improve on their instrument. In order to see this growth, a realistic plan of action needs to be employed. I begin by assessing each student's level, as well as their needs and desires, and then form a plan of action to address those needs. If the student has deficiencies in a specific area I usually try to tackle this first, especially if it affects their overall ability to make a good sound, articulate efficiently, or play with ease. I studied music education on the saxophone at Stephen F Austin State University and have been the lead of and taught within many different ensembles. I attended the NASA(National American Saxophone Alliance) conference in 2014 in Chicago, IL at Illinois State University School Of Music. My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials.
