Degree - Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
Overview:
I received my bachelors of music education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1980. I believe the study of music improves a person even if they don't go into music as a career. The believe the study of music will help people to learn about themselves, learn how to study and how work with others. It increase left brain, right brain functions and teaches someone to improve their life. The appreciation of music helps you to be more aware in other areas of your life. You will enjoy the performance of others more.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught elementary, Jr. High, and High school band as well as private students since 1980. Several of my students have gone on to be professional musicians and school teachers as well. I have performed all over the Front Range and throughout Colorado for almost 50 years. I direct a community orchestra and have played my trumpet in Jazz, symphonic orchestras, and bands for almost 50 years. I started teaching private lessons in 1974 and can teach any style and ability level. I am always looking for new students of any age.
METHODS USED
I challenge every student to exceed their own expectations. I believe everyone has more to learn and achieve, including me. Many students have taught me something, lets grow together. I use many books to start students and usually spend most of the lesson in the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet (Cornet). I like students to study classic trumpet solo's literature. Trumpet students will learn to slurring, double and triple tonging technics, as well as transposing and how to write music.
LESSON STYLE
I teach as a motivational coach. I only encourage and never discourage a student. I use a Hybrid, or blended style, following an integrated approach to teaching that blends the teacher’s personality and interests with students’ needs and curriculum-appropriate methods. While I practice all of the pedagogical techniques I learned in college, as a classroom veteran I examine and use differentiated instruction and new learning methodologies, consider that not all students respond well to one particular style
