Simply put, I love music. I listen to music and make music and teach music in different styles, on different instruments, in different ways. I've recorded and performed on trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar, ukulele, tuba, and more. I've played with symphony orchestras in Carnegie Hall and with rock bands in Brooklyn basements. Aquiles Navarro is a New York-based trumpeter, composer and DJ of Panamanian heritage. He derives his sounds from folkloric music, salsa, and reggae. This eclectic music background, based on his upbringing in Panama has led him to collaborate with folkloric musicians, dancers, visual artists, actors, and poets. He studied in Panama with tenor player Carlos Garnett and trumpeter Victor “Vitin” Paz. After moving to the US, he received a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance at the New England Conservatory, and a Master’s degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he studied with trumpeter Brian Lynch. I tell students the same fundamental things that I think about while practicing which consists of regular practice and simply enjoying the music I’m playing. I've found that students always are capable of more than they believe. Encouraging regular practice and finding music that makes the students want to practice is most important. If a student isn't enjoying their lesson, I'm not doing my job! I am always finding ways to keep my students motivated to learn. Read More

I've also found that a combination of classical and jazz studies can go a long way in helping students enjoy playing trombone and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I was born in the Ukraine. I received a degree from the Conservatory of music of Lviv in the Ukraine, where studied trombone. I was performed in Symphonic Band, Brass Ensemble, and the Philharmonic Orchestra. I was previously a band director and music educator in the Ukraine.
