I've found that students always are capable of more than they believe. Encouraging regular practice and finding music that makes the students want to practice is most important. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 5. As a I continued to take piano lessons, I eventually in middle school began to study with a professor from Julliard until entering the university. I graduated from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with a Bachelors of Music degree in piano performance. However, I started teaching right away and have enjoyed teaching for over 40 years. My mother influenced my life as a musician. In 1969 she encouraged me to audition for the Newark Boys Chorus. I auditioned. I was accepted and sang in choir-school for three years, singing music from Renaissance to R&B. In 1980 I received a BM and MMT from Oberlin Conservatory. At Oberlin I met three great teachers who encouraged me to sing professionally. I pursued the career!
