I incorporate music that you want to play such as pop, classical, or music from various cultures while still going over the fundamentals of their instrument. In the first lesson, I assess the student's current ability and also discuss the student's personal goals and interests in music. Based on this information, I create a daily fundamentals routine for the student to use to improve the basic building blocks of playing a musical instrument. I also allow students to bring in music that interests them from solo material and pieces of music from band class. I'm still playing and composing in Maryland, and am working with D.C's top wedding /show band 'Amaretto' (Washinton's Best Musicians agency, David Fletcher). Having returned from being back in Canada the past 3 years composing and producing music, I'm excited to be back here and to be helping create music in the community I live in. I believe that this is an important time, in that we experienced musicians must contribute to the communities in which we live in order to maintain a vibrant culture of the arts in all it's forms. Trombone: Practice, practice, practice! The trombone is an extremely unforgiving instrument and this is why the words practice need to be repeated many times every lesson. The student needs to understand that in order to get any enjoyment out of playing the trombone they need to practice regularly. Once the student has a regular practice schedule, then their sound will improve and they will enjoy playing. There can be almost no progress at all until the student finds regular practice time to work on their trombone exercises. Read More
