ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

DMA Candidate, Shenandoah Conservatory, MM, University of Delaware, Trombone Performance BA, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Music - Trombone Concentration

Overview:
Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile! I graduated in from the University of Delaware in 2017 with my Masters Degree in Trombone Performance. Since then, I have been a sub in multiple orchestras and chamber groups around the Greater DC area! I love the fact that I can travel to so many amazing places and meet and reconnect with friends and colleagues while on this journey, and discussing new ways to expand my knowledge on teaching and performing, is something that has made my teaching style as unique as it is! I so look forward to sharing my experiences with you!
EXPERIENCE
My Teaching experience began in my Undergraduate studies, where at my High School Placement, I had teach privately to many middle and High School Students. My real private studio began to grow in my Second Year of Master's program. During that time I had a small studio of non-majors in college, where I taught tenor and bass trombonists. Now, I maintain a small private studio in my home, at students homes and through organizations! My students have gone to All district bands, All county band and college.
METHODS USED
For Beginning Students, I suggest using either Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Rubank's series of books starting with the Elementary Method book in addition to a warm-up that is essential to what they need to work on. Once my students have a grasp of the fundamentals, I suggest a step up in method books to both Rubank Intermediate series and Bordogni Etudes. In addition, I will assign solo repertoire that we will work on for either recitals or competitions. For Adults, I try to find what the student is interested in, and I construct my instruction specifically to that student to keep lessons fun and engaging.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is a combination of what I have learned from others and what has worked for me! I find that my style at times can be demanding, but I am always fair to all my students. I want you to experience music and your own pace as that is how you best succeed! I am a big believer in fundamentals including scales, long tones, working with a metronome and tuner, etc. Music is based off of these basic methodologies, and once you master those, anything is possible! I understand that each student is different, and I create a new plan for each student to follow. I also am trying to get little gatherings with my students as they may be able to teach one another in addition to my teachings!

Nate offered a whole new perspective on music as a whole during lessons; he gave me the confidence to audition for college, advance my skills, clean up my technique, and found myself a new friend in the making. He taught me how to overcome my fears of playing in my high range and that notes are just “notes” not “high notes” … this was a major problem I had! He also allowed me to look at my music from theoretical standpoints, explained the technical sides of “why” or “how” things are written, gave me great advice when it came to life in general or my future in college, and showed me how to love doing what I do. Without Nate Lease I would not have had the ability to accomplish being in the Towson University Trombone Studio, nor would I enjoy music as much as I do now.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
