I am a performer, composer, and educator who loves inspiring and cultivating a passion for music in my students. I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from Cal State Fullerton in 2017, and moved out to CT to pursue my Master's degree at the Hartt School and study with Carrie Koffman. I love performing in competitions, as a solo performer, and in chamber ensembles. I've also had opportunities to perform around the country and the world including California, China, and New York. I decided to offer piano and general music lessons while I was attending college. It turned out to be very fun and rewarding to see my students begin to understand and apply the concepts I taught them. Creating my own teaching style and curriculum was difficult, but learning from my peers was a great experience and very helpful. I also assisted in my Studio Ensemble class to teach arrangers and composers the general rules of writing and advanced theory. Read More

I liked Paul's smooth sound and became interested in jazz. From that point onward, I wanted to hear more about this thing called "jazz." The first jazz album I ever owned was "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. I started to listen to the likes of John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and Sonny Rollins.Listening to these greats, I started to realize what I wanted to be in my life. What I liked about their music was not only their obvious talent, but their ability to excite and calm their listeners in a span of one song. Read More

At the heart of my teaching style is a balance between understanding concepts, developing technique, and applying everything in a practical, musical way. Technique and theory are essential, but they should serve expression not limit it. What we learn should ultimately help us communicate and create freely. For example, while we might spend time practicing the C major scale on the piano to understand its structure and build familiarity, the next step is bringing it to life. Read More
