For beginner students I will use the book "Accent on Achievements" by Jack O'Reilly and Mark Williams. I will show them the fundamentals of their saxophones. I will teach students all the correct fingerings and the alternate fingerings. I will teach students how to read, write, and sight read sheet music. I will teach students the basic terms of music and very basic music theory. For example: Time signature, bass and treble clef, meter, staff, etc. Read More

For all my saxophone students, I always start my lessons talking about sound and working on techniques of how to develop it and how to breath properly. The basics are always the foundation of everything else so even if you are an advanced student, you might be having some bad habbits in your instrument, so I always work on sound. I also work in articulation and how to sound as rhythmically perfect as possible. Read More

I have been a working music teacher and professional musician since 2003. My work has taken me all over the world, from exotic, global itineraries on board 5-star cruise ships, to the some of the top music venues in New York City, as well as the homes and classrooms of many satisfied students. I graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, with a B.M. in Jazz Performance (saxophone). I also hold a Certificate of Eligibility in K-12 Music from the New Jersey Department of Education, as well as a Substitute Teaching Certificate (specializing in music) for Sussex County school districts in New Jersey. Every person is different as every student is different, so I make a point to cater to the individual and not get locked into an umbrella method of teaching. I make myself available to each student to ask questions and get the most information out of whatever subject we might be discussing/learning. I make sure that each students needs get met by determining on day 1 of lessons what they want to get out of music and the instrument they are learning. Read More

For younger students that are beginners I try to get a better understanding of their skillset by giving them and listening to to them play a simple etude. This will give me a better idea of what I think we should work on most like embouchure or breath control. Once I feel like they have a good understanding of the fundamentals of the instrument I try to give them pieces that focus more on the the technicality of the saxophone. Read More
