I was very interested in being drum major, as well as conducting, and a situation came up where I was able to teach a high school band for a month while we were waiting for a full time position to be filled. In college, I took a minor in education specifically focusing on secondary education. Watchign a student improve right before your eyes is incredibly rewarding, as I have learned from my many years of teaching sailing. I think it is crucial to keep the student engaged so that this improvement remains attainable and consistent.
