Typically, regular students can expect lessons to cover fundamental aspects of playing the saxophone (embouchure development, technique exercises, etc..) as well as the music and etudes we may be covering. For students with an interest in music theory or improvisation, I like to learn those things alongside common jazz standards so that the knowledge you obtain can be immediately applied in a real musical setting. When teaching younger students, I prioritize developing a passion for music through engaging repertoire and positive encouragement, while instilling proper technique and organized practice with weekly progressive assignments. I also establish practice expectations and share progress with parents. In every lesson I demonstrate concepts by performing various woodwinds and piano, and by singing. Advanced students work towards external goals established in consultation with both students and parents like school concerts, honor band/orchestra auditions, or college applications, encouraging students to grow their musical community outside of the lesson studio. I graduated from Skidmore College as a Music major in 2020. I am primarily a jazz musician, but I have experience in a wide variety of genres, including classical, rock, blues, funk, pop, and more.
