As a musician who values both classical music and improvisation, I teach my students how to use chord sheets very soon after they begin to read music. I continued to teach music at that same sleep away camp for years -- eventually becoming the Head of the Music Department ( Rock Shop) there - coaching bands, leading improv classes, and developing the program.
