Since 2009, I worked with a distinguished Professor Mate Bekavac on specialized approaches to the standards of music pedagogy. As a result, I have developed a teaching method, which combines ‘awareness instruction method’, with basic teachings in music. This method teaches students how to think, work, study, and practice by themselves so that they can become independent musicians. Additionally, my community engagements with children with disabilities taught me compassion and patience. Read More

I've played piano and saxophone for over 25 years and studied jazz composition at Berklee College of Music. The teachers that I was fortunate enough to learn from as I grew up were so important in my musical development, and they kept me interested in continuing with music! I understand just how important specialized attention to talents and interests are in beginners and all other levels. So my focus is always trying to make sure my students are enjoying their instruments every step of the way, while providing the structure and expert assistance that will bring the progress that students need to experience. To inspire, instruct, and enjoy music is the mesaage the teacher should be imparting to the student. Read More

It was because of this grant that I was able to attend the Boston University Tanglewood Institute for Saxophone Performance, where I took lessons and studied with some of the North Shore's greatest saxophonists, such as Ken Radnofsky and Jennifer Bill. For several years in a row, I have attended the Massachusetts Music Educators Association conference and took a variety of different masterclasses centered around education and musicianship. In the future, I would like to return to college to get a Master's Degree in Music Education, and continue to take inspiration from the music educators before me. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Hi! I'm Ben. I am a fervent lover of music in all its many shapes and sizes, but personally specialize in jazz performance and theory. I first picked up the saxophone way back in elementary school, and in the spring of 2020 I graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Learning and performing music has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember, and along the way has taught me so much more than just scales and chords. Read More
