Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student progress, or better yet, develop a love for music. When my students succeed, I feel as though I have. I feel as though every student should progress at their own pace and music especially should not be something that stresses the student out (especially when it is art). I find that laying out preplanned expectations and milestones at the outset is often more for the teachers benefit than the students. I take the time to get to know the student and which methods would best benefit and keep the spark ignited. For standard piano lessons, Bastien and Faber methods are always a hit with both children and adults. For Saxophone lessons I use the "Standard of Excellence" book that most school bands use. I have also written a lesson book of my own that I use pages from. If the student would prefer presenting their favorite records/songs and learning the styles and sounds that they hear, we can go down that road! Read More

I believe that fundamentals are the basis of a great music education. Reading skills, playing skills, and ear training are all extremely important to learning music. For me, seeing the development of a student over time and seeing them meet their goals is one of the best feelings in the world.
