For trumpet students, I rely heavily on the Arban method for the essentials and then add other materials depending on the student's goals. I had so much fun working with the elementary school kids that I decided to build a studio up of my own and ever since i have been working with a number of students ages ranging from 4-80. In order to keep my students motivated, I balance tasks that each student finds easy and enjoyable with tasks that are more challenging. My students know that if they say something is too hard, I will ask them to try it again another way, using their strategies to problem solve. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Each student is provided a weekly practice journal. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
