I opened a small music studio in September of 2017, with some borrowed lesson books and just a few students. Since then, my studio has doubled, and my students have shown consistent progress. As an instructor, I don't merely teach concepts, pieces, and theory; I teach my students strategies to problem solve, overcome challenges, practice effectively, and become lifelong learners. For beginning students who are children, I often use the Andrew Scott Method for flute. When the student is considerably advance I will use the Rubank Book for flute begginers. Once the student is at a comfortable level, I will proceed to introduce him to Body Mapping. For adults, I will prefer to first of all know more about their learning abilities, other experiences with music/sports. Than, I will find out more what they are looking to learn and work from there. I start teaching when I was in high school, I help my students to pass the piano proficiency test. When I go to my undergraduate, my teachers offer me a lot of teaching opportunities. I will be the first to admit I don't have a set method for teaching. However that is because I choose different methods based on the student. Every child, adult, teenager, etc learns at a different pace, has a different educational preference and I adjust myself to meet the needs of the student. Some will learn better by ear, others will learn through a traditional study of notes. My primary instruments are voice and piano, and I am a choral conductor. I studied voice with Dr. Laura Mann, a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Piano with Daryl Millard of Australia, and Conducting with Dr. Stan Engebretson a graduate of Stanford University. I first learned music in my childhood church. I sang in the choir at 12 and became organist at 16. That early formation likely led to my career of being a church musician and music teacher. Most of my students will begin with a set of books from Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures or Alfred's Basic Piano Course, or a combination of both. I recommend that younger students take advantage of the Activity and Ear Training book that is a part of Alfred's Prep Course. I began teaching private lessons in 2005, and I have a variety of teaching experiences. I have since substitute taught every kind of subject, and I've taught general music K-5.  I have mentored conservatory level students when I was in grad school, I taught flute to non-flute music education majors, and I've taught undergraduate students that were pre-music.  I taught 3-8 year olds music at Laurel Hill Summer Camp in East Setauket, Long Island. I've also taught workshops on South American Folk Music with Alturs Duo, as well as flute masterclasses.
