For guitar- I studied under Mike Christensen at Utah States University. I use his guitar books that he has written. For piano- I use Alfred''s piano books. They are very well written and are geared for success! For flute- I start with Suzuki and then the sky is the limit! I like playing music theory games with kids. It is more enjoyable to learn this when it is a game. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I have been teaching since high school, and have taught students of all ages, ranging from age 5 to adults. I have had multiple opportunities to perform and accompany for various groups within my education at BYU, and have composed many pieces for piano, orchestra, and small groups. My students tend to progress very quickly and have a strong understanding of how to practice and what tools they can call on to reach their individual goals. Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ Keyboard
I love teaching students how to read the music. It really makes my day when they can play a piece and enjoy the music. I want them to then go forth and share the joy with others. Usually I play a piece over and over until I get it, then I have a little fun with it.I enjoy teaching music as a substitute teacher. I currently play piano or organ at 3 different congregations. Instruments: Piano Violin Keyboard
I began teaching lessons at age 14 to young neighborhood beginners. As I progressed through the years, I expanded my range of student ability from beginner to upper intermediate, and from ages 6 to... well, older than me and I'm now 60! I have taught hundreds of students and enjoyed every one of them. I find that the more effort, especially in consistent and efficient practice (to be explained and demonstrated by me), that my students put in, the more pleasure and satisfaction they get out of it! Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet Keyboard
I teach mostly Classical up to advanced level, jazz for begginers and also Klezmer and Folk styles. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing any of my students develop a passion for music and especially the style he loves. For example Classical period of XIX century or traditional Klezmer European style. There is always a challenge to choose good repertoire and teaching methods to each individual student. Seeing them grow is one of the best reward of this job. Read More
Instruments: Piano Synthesizer Harmonica Recorder Keyboard
Each student has his profile, so I seek to adapt the methodology of teaching according to the individual needs and personal choices of each student. For beginners looking to learn to read sheet music, I usually adopt the books of Michael Aaron or James Bastien (for small children). For those students who wish to develop their musicality without reading shuffles, I teach through imitation learning, the development of auditory perception and creativity. Read More
Instruments: Piano
For young beginners I start them in the Alfred Basics Books. I work to help students learn their notes quickly. I think that it is extremely important that students learn to read the notes from the staff and correlate staff reading with the notes on the piano. I give each of my students an exercise to begin their practicing each day. This exercise includes scales, arpeggios, cadences, transposing and sight reading. Read More
