For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Piano or Guitar Lessons for the Young Beginner by Andrew Scott and Gary Turner. The student, even at a young age, learns an introduction to music theory. Each concept is taught in a very methodical and step-by-step approach. As a teacher, I am looking to prepare students for ongoing learning for years to come. The language of music can be very confusing and I am looking for ways to minimize those perplexing times. Admittedly limited, my teaching experience started when I was in High School when I became the marching Band's trumpet section leader. I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with otherswatching people grow in their musicianship is an incredible reward for me and I'd love to experience it more in my life! In college, I once again assumed the role of student and absorbed everything that I could. Now that I am graduate, I am very ready to share that with those who would have it. Read More

My teaching experience started back in my last few years of college. I was always hands on with learning the tricks and tips about playing the piano. I involved myself with my peers. I helped them with practicing and figuring out techniques. To my peers, I gave constructive feedback for techniques, harmony, play style, musical sense, and anything related. This helped me realize teaching others was fun and enjoyable. Therefore I started teaching. Read More

As with methods, I do not have one lesson style. My approach with a three year old is different than with a seventy year old. I am detailed in my critiques, but patient, positive, and creative with explanations. My goal is for the students to learn to love and appreciate music and for them to use it not as a short term goal, but as something they can live with and enjoy for the rest of their lives. I sets appropriate goals with recitals, festivals and examinations to both motivate and encourage students, ensuring that they have a positive experience. Read More

I have worked professionally with children in every age group including age 2, and adults of elderly age. I also have worked with those with ADHD, post stroke, type 1 diabetes ect so I am very comfortable and sympathetic to adjustments whenever necessary. I'm a yoga instructor, and have a very easy going vibe, though I am surprisingly organized and believe in always finding creative techniques to surpass our goals sooner than thought possible. When teaching students who are young, I would first start off with the fundamentals. For example, I would explain music terms to them and develop the new language from there. Once the student has a basic understanding of music, I would then talk about the Circle of Fifths and encourage them to participate in events like concerts or festivals in school. When becoming a young adult, I would then discuss competitions and help them prepare for college auditions. Read More

I've been teaching for the past five years. My favorite part of being a teacher is seeing my students take the initiative in their musical studies and discovering break throughs in our lessons. Many of my students have participated in several honor bands and competitions, and I make it a point to steer them in that direction. In my experience the best place a musician can be is surrounded by musicians that raise their standards of excellence. Read More
