I use a combination of different methods rather than one method. The parts to my approach is; 1) Exposure, by listening to high information music. 2) Discovery, becoming familiar with the chosen instrument by means of discovering how to make music with it and what are the possibilities with said instrument. 2) Association, by learning songs and pieces that the student is already familiar with. 3) Analysis, breaking apart songs and sounds that the student is familiar with to understand the theory behind it. 4) Aplication, by using the knowledge aquiered through learning familiar with to learn new pieces of music. I aim to introduce my students to a variety of repertoire, (from baroque to modern music) but I also keep their goals and interests in mind. I consider music theory, ear training, music reading, and creative music-making just as essential as learning repertoire, therefore I strive to incorporate them in each lesson. Read More

I provide students with a 10 week progress chart that allows us to keep track of progress. Each week the student will learn a lesson task, practice it, master it, then be required to show the skill. Currently, I'm helping a local church playing piano and drums (when they're short a drummer), and I'm the lead singer for a band called Just A Theory. Having been a part of this band has been really cool because we've used this group as a platform to help the homeless, by having our fans bring food and clothing to our shows.
