Indeed, we will learn the ABCs of music and trumpet playing, but I will place an emphasis on listening to live and recorded music and attending concerts in an effort for the student to discover how their training relates to what occurs outside the four walls of the practice room. I am a passionate instructor who loves to watch students grow and develop. I am very involved and actively participate in each lesson, working with each student in order to learn together. I encourage students through positive reinforcement and attempt to instill a joy and love for music. By getting to know my students, I tailor lessons to their skill level and give each student control over how we learn and what we learn. Read More

While at ONU, I was a member of the Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band, and Woodwind Ensemble. I was given opportunities to perform in these various ensembles on clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and flute. I served as the principal clarinet of the Wind Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra, Instrumental Music Librarian, Wind Orchestra Ensemble Manager, and Wind Orchestra Assistant Conductor. I also performed in the pit orchestra for several ONU theatre productions as well as other community and school productions in the Lima/Findlay area. Read More

Lessons should be positive experiences where students are nurtured and encouraged so that they look forward to their lessons. Stickers are given for a good practice week and the burden of supervising practice by the parents is greatly eased. Read More

For my piano students, I use the Piano Adventures series, which includes the fundamentals as well as solo repertoire. Read More

I move at a very quick pace, but I have my students set their own goals. While I will select the literature for the student, I want them to feel successful when they are working with me. I want students to be confident and successful, so I will do anything in my power to help them learn good technique and practice habits. Teaching students has been a rewarding experience for me, and I believe that I can make a difference in their lives.< When students are practicing, I want them to practice scales for instruments, and vocal warmups for voice before starting on the assigned work for the next lesson.
