I love sharing the joys of music with others! I graduate from Marywood University in January 2017 with a Bachelors degree in Music Therapy. I took private vocal lessons starting when I was 14 years old. I was a part for my colleges chamber choir and I went on tour with them and performed throughout the US and Canada. One of the biggest things I've learned from teaching students and being a student myself is that ultimately, the student's mindset and practice habits are the biggest determinant in their improvement. That is why I believe strongly in getting to know each individual student before designing a week-by-week curriculum that I feel is best for them. Because every student has his/her own learning style, my lessons cater to those styles. I figure out a student's strengths and weaknesses. I acknowledge the accomplishments caused by the strengths while I focus on developing the weaknesses. For example, if a student excels melodically but has trouble maintaining accurate rhythm, I will engage the student in listening to and playing many interesting melodies that require him/her to pay close attention to counting the rhythms in order to master playing the melodies. My teaching experience started in 2011 where I started working for a private lesson music studio. There I taught students ranging from the ages 5-60 and taught piano and guitar. I also worked part-time as a music theory and keyboard tutor at a Community College. I met weekly with students who were struggling with these subjects. Assessment is the task during the first lesson. I must determine the student's voice type, and what style of music the student would like to pursue. If a boy's voice hasn't yet changed, I'll assess whether he is an alto or soprano. I'm a keen believer in teaching one to sightread and encouraging one to improvise with his/her instrument!
