My favorite moments while teaching is the light bulb moments, for these to occure lessons are goal based and created around the students level of exsperiece, future goals, and personal goals. In the first lesson we set mini goals for each lesson, medium goals for the month, and large goals for something we want to work towards or a up and coming competition. I use a positive environment to help student feel good about their accomplishments, but also have them discover areas of improvement by recording them or asking them what they feel they did well and what they feel they need to work on. As an accomplished self taught pianist and composer I've spent my life experimenting with different methods, material and practice beliefs. I can teach and speak more broadly now about music, not as an elitist activity but as a language vital to humans whether it is "spoken" or heard. I encourage exploration, a firm understanding of fundamentals and full pursuit of whatever goals are set by the student. This understanding has allowed me to produce over 50 projects, 250 string arrangements and write well over 200 songs to date. Read More

I am a member of Music Teacher National Association, Michigan Music Teacher Association (MMTA), and Metropolitan Detroit Musician League. Read More

I like to use various method books since I believe every single one of them provide different pedagogical aspects. Depending on the style, genre that the student wants to learn, I make sure they have enough resources to practice themselves in their own home. For children, I try to keep it as light and fun so they won't burnout over the long journey of learning music. For teenagers and young adults I like to show the possibilities of the instrument and where they can be with persistence and for adults I'd like to guide and help them to find what they like the most and enjoy learning and playing. I have over twenty years of experience in teaching public classes and private lessons. I have a great joy in discovering breakthrough moments where everybody can work together towards achieving their personal goals. Though it is true that every person is unique and different, it is always great where folks can get together and share the love that is music whether that be performing or simply sharing a tune with a loved one or neighbor.
