My methods vary from student to student, but a constant in my methodology is doing what I can to make the student fall in love with the instrument in their own way. Some students progress better with curriculum and disciplines right off the bat, while others need the instrument as more of an expression and an outlet, so Ive learned to respect that. I began teaching piano my sophomore year of college. During my college career, I built up a studio of nearly 20 students, tutored college-level piano courses, and worked as a Teacher's Assistant in Sight Singing and Aural Training. Since then, I taught for two years at a Summer Music Conservatory in Texas, led week-long keyboard intensive seminars throughout Western Kenya, and most recently, taught at the nation's largest piano conservatory. It's important for students to learn to have fun while playing the same scale or rudiment over and over, and I think this is entirely possible! I also think it's important for students to see just exactly what their hard work is striving them toward.
